BaWüOpen in Oppenau

From 20. to 23. of May 2004 the sky above the north of the Blackforest was much more colorful than normally. 128 competitors fought for championship points and against 1500 rivals for a good place at the dance floor at the party.

At the event opening and at two evening shows MadMikeKüng jumped not from a helicopter or hotair ballon as usual. This time he used an ultra light dragon. Not really the best aircraft for dropping. There is nearly no place for MadMike and his packed paraglider. Mike was caught between the pilot and the propeller, above him the sail of the dragon.

The take off is very spectacular. Attention! Don’t fall down! In 1200 metres height above Oppenau the pilot Klaus Kienzle turned of the engine. So Mike couldn’t hurt himself at the propeller. Then a difficult climbing tour followed.

Finally the exit. Also without the engine craft the UL dragon was flying with a speed of 60 kilometres per hour. Damned fast for a paraglider, which will be braked down to 10 km/h. The opening is very hard.

Then the dynamic show above the spectators followed. MadMike flew all the actual manoeuvres in the used harmonical manner. At the end he stopped the presentation directly in the public crowd.

At the BaWü Mike also profed that he is still able to launch from a normal paragliding take off and to make height in the thermal. ;o) At the first competion day he made a aerobattle performance directly above the starting place.

A great event. The organisators Matthias Bäuerle and Bent Beilharz and their team did a perfect job!

Thanks for that!

Special thanks to the UL pilot Klaus Kienzle, the man with nerves made of steel...
