There
are a few fixed stars in Mike’s calendar. The AIRGAMES
in Ölüdeniz is one of those stars. At the
end of October hundreds of paragliders go on a pilgrimage to Mount
Babadag. Flying, fun, and parties is what they get
there.
“Ölüdenz is really cool for flying bends".
This year it was absolutely brill,” Mike enthuses. There was
a first: Mike jumped from an ultra light for the
first time. It was just wild, an activity for people resistant to
pain.. It is not by any means as comfortable as jumping
from a helicopter or a balloon. Mike, carrying his bulgy bag, has
to squeeze into the space between the propeller and the cross bracing,
sitting on the pilot’s lap.
When the pilot has reached an altitude of 800m he
switches off the engine. The UL still does 60 km/h. That means, the
paraglider opens with a big bang, and it is not positioned above Mike
but beside him. This puts a lot of stress on the equipment.
Then the ACRO SHOW begins.
During
Mike’s last jump that marked the end of the
festival the propeller ‘swallowed’ his
packsack.
It’s
a pity, but there aren’t any photos of Mike’s jumps. But
perfect video recordings will be included in the next clip.
A fantastic event. Next year, Mike will
go to Ölüdeniz again with new packsacks that have
almost been finished.
Many thanks
to Kadri Tuglu of CLOUD 9
who organised the AIRGAMES.
